Alutacea Bird Grasshopper (aka Leather-colored Bird Grasshopper), Schistocerca alutacea: If my insect field guide is correct, then this grasshopper is farther west outside of its usual range.

Pale Swallowtail, Papilio eurymedon, SWALLOWTAIL FAMILY: This swallowtail wasn't scared off by my presence, so I was able to get some good close-ups.

Long-tailed Silverfish, Ctenolepisma longicaudata, FAMILY LEPISMATIDAE
I mistook this at first for the common silverfish (Lepisma saccharina), which except for the tail length it is very similar to. This urban dweller has a tail with three prongs and likes to nibble on clothes, paper, and bookbinding paste. The shiny one in the photographs looks like living jewelry.
